Eastern Medicine Department, SCU Health

Cliff earned a Bachelor of Arts (BA) degree in Religion with extensive coursework in Engineering from Swarthmore College, located outside of Philadelphia, PA. After working for four years in a community-based organization in one of Philadelphia’s neighborhoods, Cliff earned a Master of Science (MS) degree in Education from the Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania and then taught high school mathematics for five years.

Originally meant as a sabbatical from teaching, Cliff’s stay at South Baylo University (Anaheim and Los Angeles) earned him a Master of Science (MS) degree in Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (AOM) in 2006. Cliff received his California license to practice in early 2007 and has been practicing ever since in both Los Angeles and Orange counties. Currently he has a practice in Stanton in Orange County, and he uses a combined approach of acupuncture and acupressure/tui-na, as well as herbology and nutritional counseling based on body type and constitution and pulse/abdominal diagnosis.

With a background in education, Cliff has taught classes in Herbology, Practice Management, and Nutrition (East Asian medicine perspective) at his alma mater. One of his life objectives is to improve the pedagogy of East Asian medicine education, especially in the English language, through translations of Korean texts and classroom/clinic instruction. Cliff also volunteers at various community organizations, specifically at the Korean Resource Center in Los Angeles (Koreatown), and nationally at the National Korean American Service and Education Consortium (NAKASEC), especially around issues concerning healthcare. Another of his life objectives is to contribute towards increased public accessibility to high quality healthcare, including acupuncture and East Asian medicine, regardless of income and status.

At SCUHS CEM, Cliff has taught Herbology, Diseases of Aging, and Classical Acupuncture.
