Celebrating 111 Years of Integrative, Whole-Person Healthcare at SCU
Today, Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCU) celebrates its 111th birthday as a premier healthcare institution.
SCU was founded on October 18, 1911, by Dr. Charles Cale and his wife, Linnie Cale, as the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic. Since then, SCU has expanded to include doctoral, master’s, bachelor’s, and certificate programs in fields ranging from acupuncture and Chinese herbal medicine to human genetics and genomics.
111 Years of Exceptional Healthcare Education
Now, with over 20 years of accreditation by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges Senior College and University Commission (WSCUC), SCU offers reputable programs that meet rigorous standards.

Throughout its 111-year history, SCU has continued to innovate and expand its offerings to help students excel in a rapidly shifting healthcare landscape. The latest addition to its expanding program offerings is the Doctor of Whole Health Leadership, a first-of-its-kind program designed to equip a new generation of leaders with the tools to bring about the culture shift necessary to scale and spread a whole health approach.
While at SCU, students gain the knowledge and experience needed to be practice-ready through a combination of SCU’s industry-leading faculty, innovative course design, and exceptional clinical experiences.
Regardless of the program of study, SCU graduates are taught to understand and appreciate different approaches, treatment options, and philosophies of health and well-being, resulting in the essential co-curricular learning outcomes of inclusivity, integrative and whole-person health, and professionalism.
