SCU President John Scaringe, DC, EdD receives 2022 Visionary Award, presented by the Academy of Integrative Health & Medicine (AIHM)
SCU President John Scaringe, DC, EdD, was honored with the 2022 Visionary Award at the Academy of Integrative Health & Medicine (AIHM) 2022 Conference: Disruptive Innovation + The Future of Health, on Oct. 29, 2022.
AIHM Visionary Award candidates are interprofessional collaborators and key unifiers who have worked together to establish a new paradigm of healthcare for humanity and the planet.
“Dr. Scaringe completely embodies these qualities and his work and vision to change education is inspiring,” said Tabatha Parker, ND, AIHM Executive Director. “John has been a visionary in the field of interprofessional education and builds teams, collaborations, and spaces towards this end – his visionary leadership empowers faculty, students and colleagues to thrive to create interprofessional spaces that ultimately empower patients and deliver better patient care.”
Selection criteria for the annual AIHM Visionary Award includes great imagination and wisdom, said Dr. Parker. “Visionaries lead to where we may not otherwise be able to go – they have a vision for the future that others cannot see. They see clearly even when we are unable to do so. Our visionary recipient has demonstrated these qualities for the movement of integrative health & medicine. Like all our recipients – their visionary style embodies the AIHM qualities of pluralism, collaboration and love. AIHM Visionaries are crystal clear on what the future can look like, through the promotion and creation of health, and the delivery of evidence-informed comprehensive, affordable, sustainable person-centered care.”
“Dr. John Scaringe certainly embodies the values and the spirit of AIHM’s Visionary award. As an educational leader, he has not only vocally championed and lobbied for integrative healthcare education, he has also courageously motivated his institution and others to successfully implement interprofessional programs that are truly making a difference, now,” said Bill Meeker, DC, MPH, AIHM Board Chair. “He is well-deserving of recognition.”
“I’m very humbled to be among the individuals who have received past AIHM Visionary Awards, and all the others who are deserving of it,” said Dr. Scaringe, during his award acceptance. “This really isn’t my award, this award is the reflection of our SCU Board of Regents, our SCU faculty and staff, and especially our SCU students. I stand on your shoulders accepting the AIHM Visionary Award for 2022. You’re all what made SCU what it is, what it continues to be, and as we Go Beyond into our very bright future transforming and redefining health care education and integrative, whole-person health care. I truly appreciate this recognition for SCU. Thank you, AIHM!”
SCU has been working with AIHM since its inception in 2015, and has been a decades long standing sponsor of predecessor organizations, the Academic Collaborative for Integrative Health (ACIH), which merged with AIHM in 2021; and the Academic Consortium for Complementary and Alternative Health Care (ACCAHC).
