WHITTIER, CA. – (Feb. 22, 2022) — Southern Californians can receive free Chiropractic Care and Ayurvedic Treatments an upcoming SCU Health Tent Event outreach clinic in East Whittier. SCU Health offers free clinics in a continuing effort to serve the community with integrative healthcare services, increase the awareness of integrative healthcare benefits, and provide students with clinical experience and patient treatment.
The SCU Health Tent Event will be held Saturday, Feb. 26, 2022 from 1–4 p.m. on the campus of Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCU), inside the gym (Building Q), located at 16200 Amber Valley Drive Whittier, CA 90604. Free parking is available in Parking Lot #1. A campus map is available for downloading.
The following healthcare services will be offered:
- Chiropractic consultations and treatments. Treatment is based on the consultation and varies for each patient, based on their needs.
- Ayurveda consultations and treatment in the form of a relaxing head massage with warm herbal oil. Tent Event Ayurveda treatments are currently minimized, however, providers recommend patients follow-up with an appointment in the SCU Health Clinic.
SCU Health Tent Events are free and open to the public, although a donation of $5 – $25 is suggested. All patient donations will benefit the La Habra Community Resource Care Center to aid in providing essential hygiene kits and fresh groceries to residents of the community & beyond.
No appointments are necessary and patients will be seen on a first-come, first-served basis. Masks will be required as the Tent Event is an extension of the SCU Health Clinic, which is a healthcare facility, and masks are thus still required.
SCU Health has been hosting free Tent Event clinics since June 2020 as a way to serve the community and prepare health sciences students as future physicians. Licensed faculty and clinical physicians supervise the students, and the care patients receive. SCU students receive course credit for volunteering but can also volunteer solely to practice.
“We wanted to provide an opportunity to reach the people who are interested in considering integrative medicine, including chiropractic and Ayurveda,” said Sharon Martinez, SCU Health Provider Liaison. When the pandemic hit, we wanted to provide a way to reach our patients with minimal risks, but still receive the same quality treatment that patients would experience if they were to be seen in our clinic.”
SCU Health Tent Events currently do not receive any outside or donor support. For those interested funding or supporting SCU Tent Events, please contact Sharon Martinez, SCU Health Provider Liaison, at SharonMartinez@scuhs.edu, or at (562) 378-9335.
