SCU Doctor of Chiropractic students, Christian Caragao and Katie Sakamoto, recognized by The California Chiropractic Association

WHITTIER, CA – (Dec. 6, 2021) SCU Doctor of Chiropractic students Christian Caragao and Katie Sakamoto were recently recognized by The California Chiropractic Association (CalChiro) at theCalChiro Convention in Napa, California. Caragao received the Diversity and Inclusion Scholarship and Sakamoto received the Student of the Year award.

“As an active member on CalChiro and Eboard member of SCU-CalChiro, their new Diversity and Inclusion Scholarship seemed like a great opportunity to express myself,” said Caragao. “Since I have a few board exams coming up next term, this is a huge relief, financially. I am very thankful for this opportunity to increase diversity and inclusion efforts with my fellow colleagues. Another benefit of receiving this scholarship is the opportunity to spread awareness to my community about the many different paths you can take to become successful.”

Caragao’s words of wisdom for other students in search of scholarships are to “definitely check your emails, check the school’s websites for scholarships, be involved in clubs and see what they offer, and once you find one, apply and you never know, you might get recognized!”

Sakamoto is the second SCU student in a row to receive the CalChiro Student of the Year Award. SCU’s Jonathan Carlos received the award in 2020.Sakamoto was nominated by her fellow Eboard and was recognized by the CalChiro Director of Membership and others in CalChiro Association.

Sakamoto says that “being CalChiro Student of the Year means so much to me! In Fall 2019, I joined the Eboard of SCU CalChiro to make connections with doctors and students and help pass legislative laws. The club was relatively new but growing, so I reached out to the other chapters of CalChiroand let them know who I was and what we’re about. Throughout the next few months, we hosted webinars with docs in CalChiro as networking opportunities for students, planned multiple social events and raffles. This award is an amazing recognition of all the hard work that happens behind-the-scenes that often goes unnoticed. I am thankful and blessed to be recognized and I can’t wait to keep showing up for my profession!”
