Biography
Dr. Maureen Knechtel is an adjunct professor with the Southern California University School of Health Sciences Doctor of Medical Science Program, and an associate professor and the academic coordinator for the Milligan University physician assistant program, where she also serves as the remediation specialist. She holds a Doctor of Medical Science with a focus in medical education from the University of Lynchburg and earned both a Master of Physician Assistant Studies and a Bachelor of Science in Health Science from Duquesne University. In addition to her academic roles, she practices clinically as a cardiology physician assistant at Ballad Health Cardiovascular Associates Heart Institute.
Her academic expertise includes curriculum design, instructional delivery, and student remediation. She has published research on atrial fibrillation management, authored and edited multiple medical textbooks with Springer Publishing, and speaks nationally on cardiovascular and medical education topics. She is also a faculty member with the MedAxiom Cardiovascular Academy, American College of Cardiology, and was named the 2021 Tennessee Academy of Physician Assistants Educator of the Year.
