Biography
Pamela “Michel” Statler, DMSc, PA-C, graduated from Baylor University in 1977 with a Bachelor of Arts degree. In 1980, she received her Bachelor of Science from the University of Alabama in Birmingham’s Surgeon’s Assistant Program. After graduation, she worked clinically in cardiac surgery, ENT, and neurosurgery. Statler attained her Master of Liberal Arts from the Southern Methodist University in 2000 and completed her Doctor of Medical Sciences at the University of Lynchburg in May 2023.
Statler’s first and final academic appointments were with the Department of Physician Assistant Studies at the University of Texas (UT) Southwestern Medical Center, Dallas, Texas. She held academic appointments as an associate professor at Midwestern University, Glendale, AZ and Rosalind Franklin University where she also served as program director before transitioning into the role as Associate Dean of Academic Affairs for the College of Health Professions.
Statler was the first PA educator to work as a staff member at the Physician Assistant Education Association (PAEA)where she worked closely with the Assessment Institute on the development of a new exam administration platform to support a new line of assessment products that included End-of-Rotation exams for the clinical phase of the PA program curriculum.
Statler has received numerous awards and recognitions, which include: Texas Academy of PAs’ PA Educator of the Year, PA Teacher of the Year at Midwestern University, Rosalind Franklin University Outstanding Educator Award, UT Southwestern Medical Center’s Outstanding Faculty Award, Outstanding Educator Award, and the PAEA’s President’s Award. She was inducted into the Pi Alpha National Honor Society for PAs and the Alpha Eta Honor Society as well as the Southwestern Academy of Teachers. She is a former president of the PAEA and is the current President of the PA Foundation which is the philanthropic arm of the American Academy of PAs.
