You will be introduced to multiple care settings and business structures. Students start their clinical studies on-campus at the University Health Center, which has an enriched teaching environment and the Human Performance Optimization Center. The SCU Health Systems provides integrative care to over 45,000 patients per year. The University Health Center is equipped with an expansive herbal pharmacy, diagnostic imaging, and an electronic health record system. You will interact with other health professions and disciplines and learn how to co-manage patients in an integrated setting within an interdisciplinary team environment. SCU uses competency exams that mimic the board certification. The competency exams give students feedback on how they are doing, and offer us insights into our performance as a program.
Our practitioner faculty bring timely experience to the classroom every day, supplementing their lectures with practical advice. After your first clinical term, you can expand your clinical experience to partner health centers, private practice rotations, and Veterans’ Health Administration (VA) hospitals. The Veterans Health Administration is America’s largest integrated health care system, providing care at 1,255 health care facilities. SCU students have the opportunity for clinical experience at many locations. These include Greater Los Angeles, Loma Linda, Long Beach, Phoenix, and Las Vegas.
Cadaver-based anatomy is a classic teaching method that offers invaluable lessons and insight into the shape, feel, and function of the body. During this unique experience for future chiropractors, students express reverence and awe as they approach the body to make their first cut in real tissues and structures. Private Practice Rotations (PPR) provide students with an opportunity to gain clinical experience at roughly 100 private practice locations. The Doctor of Chiropractic Program of the Southern California University of Health Sciences is also approved by the California Board of Chiropractic Examiners.
Successful completion of Parts I, II, III, and IV of the National Board of Chiropractic Examiners (NBCE) exams is necessary to become licensed in almost all U.S. licensing jurisdictions. LACC students perform exceptionally well on those exams, as demonstrated in the table below and the program has consistently surpassed the Council on Chiropractic Education threshold of 80%.
The table reports the number of students who graduated in each of the last four calendar years and the percentage of those who passed all parts of the NBCE licensing exams within six months of graduation.

In compliance with 34 CFR 668.43, the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic (LACC) at SCU provides information pertaining to professional licensure for the Doctor of Chiropractic program. Students should refer to the information below and contact the appropriate licensing board to ensure they will meet the licensure requirements in the state(s) in which they intend to practice upon graduation. LACC’s Doctor of Chiropractic program meets the educational requirements for licensure in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.
Some states have requirements in addition to educational requirements. Prospective and enrolled students are encouraged to research licensure requirements for the state in which they intend to practice. Licensure requirements vary from state to state.
Neither acceptance for admission into the program nor the subsequent earning of a Doctor of Chiropractic degree guarantees that a state or foreign country will grant a graduate a license to practice chiropractic. Each state and foreign country, through its legislative and administrative process, defines the standards of competency and scope of practice of chiropractic within its jurisdiction. For further information on each of the jurisdictions, please visit the Official Directory of the Federation of Chiropractic Licensing Board.
Please note that licensure requirements are always subject to change. Although SCU will confirm the licensure requirements on a routine basis, we strongly recommend that you inquire with the licensing agency to confirm that you understand and will meet the requirements for licensure before enrolling in your program of choice. Additionally, while progressing through the program, we recommend that you check licensing agency requirements regularly to monitor whether they have changed in a manner that impacts your licensure plans.

Some of my favorite courses at SCU have to be the chiropractic procedure classes; those are the classes you get to hone in on your chiro skills, your palpation skills and ultimately work on the adjustments that make you a chiropractor. Those are the classes I feel enhance my knowledge the most and are some of the reasons I chose to become a chiropractor here are SCU.
The student body at SCU is unique. Everyone is open-minded and willing to talk to you and help you out. I love that I have found my main group of friends who have become my life support. I am also in numerous clubs, which have helped with networking and support; a great community to be a part of.
"I wanted to become a chiropractor after sitting in on a chiropractor lecture. Everything clicked, and I knew this was what I wanted to do. I came from a background where I wasn't a good student; I was at a low point, but SCU gave me a chance. I received help, support, resources, and tutoring. I now have the skills to succeed as a chiropractic student and as a leader on campus."
Doctor of Chiropractic faculty, Dr. Sermeno, ensures you understand [the material] to the best of your ability. If he is presenting in a way you do not understand, he will present it differently so you can understand. I appreciate that. He is also in practice and brings that knowledge to the classroom, so we have an idea of what is happening in clinics and have real-life examples to learn from."
If you have 90 undergraduate credits or more and meet other admission standards, you are eligible for the Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) program. Students who do not meet the 90 credits can enroll in the Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences Chiropractic Sciences Concentration which only requires 57 credits and provides another pathway to the DC program.
To apply for the Doctor of Chiropractic degree, applicants must meet one of the following pathways. All candidates must hold a degree or completed credits from an institution accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Department of Education or a comparable foreign agency. If applicants do not fully meet these criteria, they may still be considered for admission with the Dean’s approval, with exceptions made on a case-by-case basis.

Students who are missing a prerequisite course requirement or are looking to improve their GPA can choose to take an SCU Accelerated Science course and complete the requirements in as little as five weeks. In addition to meeting the University’s requirements for transfer credit, the following requirements apply to students receiving Advanced Standing for the Doctor of Chiropractic program:
The chiropractic program has formal 10 and 12-term curricular tracks/sequences. The Admissions Pathways and the Curriculum Tracks are in recognition that applicants come from many backgrounds and that this variety in the chiropractic profession is valuable.
Students admitted through Pathway 3 are automatically enrolled in the 12-term curriculum track and cannot switch to the 10-term track. All other students are enrolled in the 10-term track by default. Students admitted to the 10-term track may switch to the formal 12-term track no later than 75% completion of the 3rd term. Students who wish to switch to the formal 12-term track should contact the Registrar’s Office.
Students admitted through Pathway 3 will be required to participate in the LACC Advising Program while students admitted under Admissions Pathway 1 and 2 may be required to participate. The SCU Advising Program is offered to support academic success. When participating in the SCU Advising Program, students will be required to:

The LACC Dean’s Merit Scholarship is available to incoming Doctor of Chiropractic students who have demonstrated academic achievement. The scholarship is $10,000 and will be awarded over 10 terms1,2. To be eligible for consideration, students must have a minimum GPA of 3.6 or higher on the 90 credits required to enter SCU’s Pathway 1 or 2. Students must be continuously enrolled. This scholarship is not available to Pathway 3 (12-term) and Canadian students. Scholarships are limited.
The LACC Out-of-State Scholarship is for Doctor of Chiropractic students who reside outside of California and have financial need to help offset the cost of relocation. The scholarship is $10,000 and will be awarded over 10 terms1,2. To be eligible for consideration, students must have a minimum GPA of 3.3 or higher on the 90 credits required to enter SCU’s Pathway 1 or 2. Students must be continuously enrolled. A scholarship application is not required. SCU will determine eligibility based on the information provided in your application. Additional documentation may be required. Pathway 3 (12-term) and Canadian Students are not eligible for this scholarship. Scholarships are limited.
SCU’s Canadian Scholarship is for F-1 Visa Canadian students who are enrolled in the Doctor of Chiropractic program and provides a maximum of a 20% discount on tuition. This scholarship is automatically provided to those who qualify with no application required and is subject to modification based on quarterly reviews. Canadian Scholarship students are not able to combine this scholarship with the Deans Merit or Out-of-State Scholarships.
1 Students who qualify for the LACC Dean’s Merit Scholarship and the LACC Out-of-State scholarship will be awarded the LACC Dean’s Merit scholarship. The awards are of equivalent value.
2 Bachelor of Science in Health Science (BSHS) students who are enrolled continuously in the Chiropractic Sciences concentration and are accepted into the DC program and meet the standards for the merit scholarship would be eligible to earn a prorated amount over one less term of the designated scholarship duration for their new program of study. BSHS students must complete their bachelor’s degree with SCU to be eligible for the merit scholarships.

The Force Sensing Table Technology Lab helps enhance student training, expedite assessment of manual therapy skills, and improve treatment for patients. SCU’s FSTT Lab improves clinician training by providing instant analytical information to students, something that cannot be directly measured from human patients.
The force sensing technology is built into the tables, allowing students to practice adjustments on people, or practice on mannequins.
The FSTTs are tools for chiropractic students to take advantage of and learn early on, where they need to develop. The FSTT shows students where they excel, and where they need to focus more attention. It shows them their speed, pre-load tension, if they recoil (meaning lose pre-adjustive tension) during the thrust, how much force they are delivering, their line of drive, among several other types of helpful feedback. The FSTT Lab helps students create good habits early on in their adjusting careers, which will make them better adjusters, as future chiropractors. This tool has the ability to give students the confidence they need to deliver the best care, through proper, effective adjustments.
For students seeking career flexibility and increased earning potential, SCU offers a combined Doctor of Chiropractic (DC) and Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine (DAcCHM) pathway. This dual-degree program allows chiropractors to broaden their practice and enhance their revenue opportunities. By pursuing both degrees, students can complete their studies in as little as 5 years and 4 months, reducing their time to completion by up to 16 months and saving up to $30,750 in tuition.
Students begin with the Doctor of Chiropractic program and include Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine courses as part of their DC Selectives. These courses are applicable to the DAcCHM degree. One term before starting DC clinical training, students apply for admission to the DAcCHM program, transferring approximately 40% of the DAcCHM credits earned. During the DC clinical training phase, students will simultaneously begin their DAcCHM program. After completing the DC degree, students will need just two additional years to finish the DAcCHM degree, allowing them to earn both doctoral degrees in as little as 5 years and 4 months.
By enrolling in the dual pathway, students can complete two professional doctoral degrees in as little as 5 years and 4 months, compared to the 7 years typically required if pursuing the degrees separately. SCU’s innovative approach allows DC students to start the DAcCHM program during their DC clinical studies, usually around the middle of the third year (Term 8). Students can receive up to 75 transfer credits from their DC coursework (53 credits) and Selectives (22 credits) towards the DAcCHM program, covering nearly 40% of the DAcCHM curriculum. This integration can result in savings of up to $30,750 in tuition.
While the DAcCHM is the recommended dual-degree pathway, students may opt to apply to the Master of Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine (MAcCHM) program instead, which is one term shorter, potentially reducing completion time by up to four months. Financial aid and scholarships are typically available for students enrolled in both programs.
Students accepted into the Doctor of Chiropractic program need to apply to the Doctor of Acupuncture and Chinese Herbal Medicine program one term before they start clinical education. Applicants must meet the admissions requirements for the DAcCHM program.
