As the AVP of Student & Alumni Services at Southern California University of Health Sciences, Shelby Gugel brings over 23 years of experience in higher education with an emphasis on student affairs. Shelby is committed to instituting a comprehensive array of new services and resources to create an integrative and holistic student and alumni experience. Prior to joining SCU, Shelby served in various student affairs campus and corporate leadership capacities, executing all aspects of student life; including Dean of Student Affairs and Regional Vice President of Student Affairs at The Art Institutes for over 18 years.

Throughout Shelby’s career, she has demonstrated a commitment to improving the student experience and providing support and resources to help students succeed. At SCU, Shelby plays an important role in overseeing Student Life, Learning Resource Center, Disability Services, Alumni Services, Career Services, Wellness, working closely with the Provost’s Council to ensure a thriving and fulfilling experience for all students.

Shelby received her Bachelor’s Degree in Social Work from Arizona State University and Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University. Outside of work, Shelby is an active volunteer with a homeless youth shelter and a dedicated advocate for voter registration and LGBTQ+ rights.
