Student’s passion for giving propels him to pursue excellence at SCU

Los Angeles College of Chiropractic (LACC) student, Dylan Hernandez is not content with just sitting back and waiting for things to happen. He is focused, driven, and extremely active in pursuing his educational goals. “You can’t just sit back and let people teach you everything you need to know,” he says. “You have to attack your education.” Dylan’s drive is fueled by his passion for healing patients through chiropractic care.
As a top student in the Doctor of Chiropractic program at LACC, Hernandez is taking advantage of everything SCU has to offer, such as a scholarship to help him pay for his education, opportunities to serve others, and a supportive campus community.” The students I study with are passionate about what we’re doing. We want to make the world a better place.”
He is also taking advantage of the co-curricular activities outside his regular classes that allow him to learn even more. Hernandez has served as president of the “Rehab to Performance Club,” which provides students with an opportunity to learn active care rehab in a hands on, team building environment. Plus, he regularly takes continuing education classes through the college. “I try to take as many continuing education courses as I can. I take them to diversify my clinical toolbox so that I am able to help patients with various issues they may have. My focus is always on becoming better so that I can help patients,” says Hernandez.
A chronic shoulder injury sustained from playing sports led Dylan to seek relief through various medical professionals and ultimately lead him to his chosen career path. “I went to M.D.s and orthopedic doctors who said there was nothing they could do other than prescribe pain meds,” says Hernandez. It wasn’t until he visited a chiropractor that he experienced relief. “My chiropractor focused on getting me back to sports—and encouraged me to pursue a career in chiropractic,” he says. After experiencing firsthand the benefits of chiropractic care, Hernandez was inspired to pursue a career as Doctor of Chiropractic. “I am extremely passionate about giving people their lives back.
Well on his way to making his dreams a reality, Dylan is beginning his clinical rotations at LACC, which he feels extremely well prepared for thanks to all his outside work, and will graduate in April 2018. He wants to open a practice that will help give his patients the freedom to do the things they love.
This is what his chiropractor did for him, and he wants to pay it forward.
