SCU Student Presents at Sports Conference

news_files/KarenBloch7-7-2010.pngSCU student Karen Bloch conducted a strength and conditioning workshop at the American Osteopathy Academy of Sports Medicine Conference in April. Attendees gave her the highest rating of any speaker at the conference.

She is a 5th term student who has extensive athletic training experience. During her career she has worked with the Women’s Professional Softball League and a variety of USA National teams. In 2001 Karen was an athletic training fellow at the United States Olympic Committee and then was a staff athletic trainer at the University of Wisconsin, Madison. In 2008 she served as a member of the Olympic Games Sports Medicine staff at the Beijing, China Olympic Games. Karen currently serves as the sports medicine and performance coordinator for the USA Water Polo.

Karen received her Master of Science degree in Health and Human Performance from Oklahoma State University. Her undergraduate degree in Physical Education was from Western Illinois University. She is a Certified Strength and Condition Specialist and a Performance Enhancement Specialist.

While at SCU Karen has been active in student government. She developed Integration Week, an extra-curricular program, to bring alumni and other health care professionals to campus to present their approach to specific conditions.

Dr. Naresh C. Rao, a member of the Planning Committee for the American Osteopathy Academy, stated that Karen’s workshop was deeply appreciated by the physicians, fellows, and students alike. “Her expertise in strength and conditioning and her gifted insight into the workings of the human body was quite apparent and was a true asset to us all.”
