  • Feb. 6, 2012 - Consortium for Oriental Medicine Research & Education

    The President and the Senior Administration on behalf of SCU made a strong statement of commitment toward the advancement of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine by contributing $10,000 to the Consortium for Oriental Medicine Research & Education, with the largest contribution from any educational institution. The Consortium was established to fund Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine research, to standardize TCM diagnosis codes by the World Health Organization and elevate the standards of TCM education. Once again SCU takes the exemplary role of supporting organizations that promote, secure and establish standard of excellence in the professions that we participate in.

    On November 30, 2011, Dr. Gena Kadar will be honored with a teaching award by the University of California Irvine School of Medicine’s Susan Samueli Center for Integrative Medicine. In celebration of the Center’s 10th anniversary, a reception will be held to recognize those that have furthered the Center’s mission to discover, teach and heal over the past ten years. Among a distinguished group of honorees, Dr. Kadar has been selected as a recipient of an award for teaching.     Heartfelt Thank You, Dr. Blaine from Blaine Labs has done it again. On top of his previous financial support for the past years totaling over $70,000, for this year Dr. Blaine has donated $10,000 to establish the Blaine Labs Scholarship Fund. His generosity to help and to give is so very welcomed and unexpected in these most economically challenging times. Not only does Dr. Blaine “talk the talk” but he “walks the walk”. Thank you Dr. Blaine for your continuous support. On August 27, 2010 at the Centennial Extravaganza Gala Dinner, Dr. Robert Blaine from Blaine Labs presented to SCU a $10,000 check for the Blaine Labs Scholarship Fund. As an industry leader and innovator Dr. Robert Blaine exemplifies his commitment to education and helping others by his community service and his dedication as an active member of the SCU Board of Regents.     Musculoskeletal Injuries in Combat Areas Prompts Congressional Response The American Chiropractic Association (ACA) and the Association of Chiropractic Colleges (ACC) today applauded a Senate proposal calling for greater utilization of the services provided by doctors of chiropractic within the Department of Defense (DoD). The U.S. Senate Committee on Appropriations recently filed a report to accompany fiscal year 2012 spending legislation for Pentagon operations which included language urging DoD to expand the use of services delivered by doctors of chiropractic to troops in combat settings.

    Ms. Donna Winges and Dr. Jeremy Summer, April 2011 graduate students in the Master of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine program, were recently awarded full scholarships from the Chinese government for the Doctoral Degree in Traditional Chinese Medicine. In September of 2011 they will start their study at the Beijing University of Chinese Medicine (BUCM) in China. SCU is the only Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine University in California that is officially recognized by the Chinese Department of Education as a Higher Education Institute. These two graduate students are the only California recipients of Chinese Government TCM Scholarship Program.

  • July 22, 2011 - The Chronicle of Higher Education puts SCU in Elite Company

    SCU was recognized as one of the best colleges in the nation to work for, according to a new survey by The Chronicle of Higher Education. The results, released today in The Chronicle’s fourth annual report on The Academic Workplace, are based on a survey of nearly 44,000 employees at 310 colleges and universities. In all, only 111 of the 310 institutions achieved “Great College to Work For” recognition for specific best practices and policies. Results are reported for small, medium, and large institutions, with Sample included among the large universities with 10,000 or more students.

    Whittier, CA – Southern California University of Health Sciences (SCU) is a recipient of a federal grant awarded to support Scholarships for Disadvantaged Students. SCU was one of 37 institutions chosen to receive federal funding from the US Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) to support scholarship opportunities for disadvantaged students representing underserved communities. SCU will begin offering scholarships to assist identified students for the fall 2011 term.

This event will honor alumni and friends of the University who have made significant financial contributions to the University. Following the special luncheon, donor names will be unveiled in the Hall of Honor of the Performing Arts Complex at 1:30 pm.

  • Jan. 24, 2011 - It is with great sadness to report the passing of health and fitness legend Jack LaLanne.

    Dr LaLanne died yesterday afternoon at the age of 96. SCU has a special connection with the LaLanne family as his daughter Dr Yvonne LaLanne is a 1984 graduate of the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic and Jack received an honorary doctorate from the Southern California University of Health Sciences when he was the keynote speaker at the 2008 Extravaganza. Our heartfelt condolences to his wife Elaine and the rest of the family.

    Congratulations! The Anton B. Burg Foundation, awarded $70,110 to fund a 2-year study on The effect of Chiropractic Treatment for Smoking Cessation: A Randomized Clinical Trial. The principal investigator is Dr. Kevin Rose and the Co-Investigators are Dr Mark Losack, Dr. Gena Kadar and Dr. Anupama KizhakkeVeettil with Dr. Eric Hurwitz is the Collaborator.

  • Dec. 27, 2010 - Anupama Kizhakkeveettil recently awarded as “Ayurveda vachaspathi”

    for the recognition of her outstanding presentation at second Ayurvedic international conference in Ayurveda Organized by AAPNA in Miami Florida. The mission of the AAPNA (Association of Ayurvedic Professionals of North America) is to bring the healing science of Ayurveda and its modalities to the forefront of integrative medicine in the West.
