Picture1 On the morning of November 12, 2015 a remarkable affiliation took place between two institutions, Southern California University of Health Sciences (United States) and Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine (China). The purpose of this meeting was to promote the education of traditional Chinese medicine in the United States as well as the opportunity for SCU students to study abroad. They explained the purpose is to promote a positive learning experience between the two institutions that will include clinical collaboration and research. This program is driven by Dr. John Scaringe, President of Southern California University of Health Sciences. He visited the Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine campus in Jinan, China and its affiliated hospitals. The two Universities signed a memorandum of affiliation. President Scaringe met with the honorable government party and SDUTCM officials: the Deputy Director of Educational Bureau of Shandong Province, Guo Jianlei, SDUTCM Chief Party Secretary, Yu Fuhua, SDUTCM President, Wu Jibiao, and Vice President Gao Shuzhong whom all attended the signing ceremony.
Southern California University of Health Sciences is the premier university in the field of teaching traditional Chinese medicine in the United States. President Scaringe stated Americans in the United States are realizing that “prevention is better than cure.” This concept is becoming increasingly popular and Americans are becoming more open to accepting traditional Chinese medicine. Southern California University of Health Sciences is committed to promoting integrative and evidence-based practice of healthcare. Founded in 1911, this century-old University is an advocate for merging theories of traditional Chinese medicine and Western medicine and is the largest of all American Universities of its category.

Shandong University of Traditional Chinese Medicine was founded in 1958 and is the focus of the construction of Chinese medicine colleges with nearly 30 foreign universities. These medical institutions have established friendly and cooperative relations. Chief Party Secretary, Yu Fuhua said that the collaboration with SCU will contribute to the increase of visibility and influence in the United States, and further promote the quintessence of traditional Chinese medicine. It will also help to encourage further development of traditional Chinese medicine in the United States. It is understood that both Universities shall encourage collaboration and exchanges in the field of education and research and promote visiting of both Universities. This will bring opportunities for students and faculties, and will encourage various forms of collaboration in education, including academics, professional lectures, teaching, research, and other exchange activities.
