Why SCU?
When you think about all that Southern California University of Health Sciences offers, the question isn’t so much “Why SCU?” as it is “Why not SCU?” In today’s world of integrated health care, it’s becoming increasingly important that professionals from all fields be able to work together for the wellbeing of their patients.
And that’s exactly what SCU students learn as they evolve from understanding to knowledge to performance as either practitioners of acupuncture/oriental medicine or doctors of chiropractic.
We do this through:
- A wide variety of hands-on opportunities on and off-campus to apply your knowledge with actual patients
- An evidence-based approach that connects factual evidence to medical theory and alternative health care
- A focus on two models of instruction: biomedical model for the diagnosis and treatment of disease and holistic model of health and wellness
- More in-depth medical science instruction than most schools of chiropractic offer
- Integration of the sciences, the techniques, and the practical skills of healing, allowing you to absorb information more quickly and to apply your knowledge as you learn it
- Extensive biomedical courses for acupuncture/oriental medicine students with comprehensive on-campus anatomy and radiology labs
- Technique hours (750) dedicated to a diversified approach that includes the majority of techniques applied in the day-to-day practice of chiropractic
- More laboratory hours (900) and internship hours (1,050) for acupuncture/oriental medicine students than most AOM schools provide
- More laboratory hours (4,785) for chiropractic students than the 4,200 required by our accrediting agency
- Modern facilities, technology, and equipment, including a state-of-the-art, 12,000-square-foot on-campus health center
- Training with faculty and health care professionals in a multidisciplinary environment
