SCU Student Ambassadors Program
Who We Are
SCU Student Ambassadors are a select group of students dedicated to the positive promotion of SCU and the chiropractic and acupuncture/oriental medicine professions. We volunteer to serve as liaisons between the current SCU student community and prospective students.

Jason L. Hawkins - Senior Student Ambassador
Jason was born in El Paso, TX, and moved to Phoenix, AZ in 1986 where he did his undergraduate studies at Glendale Community College before being accepted to at SCU. Jason decided to attend SCU because he was inspired by a chiropractor friend after being treated for a car accident. His hobbies include honing his entrepreneurial skills and learning about creating wealth, so it is no surprise that he is working on 2 side businesses while attending classes.
When asked why he wanted to become a student ambassador, he replied, “I came out here not knowing anyone and the ambassadors that presented the school to me made me feel so comfortable and welcome, while answering all the questions I had about the school and program. They helped me make the transition to chiropractic school with ease.”

Cathy Wong - Student
I grew up in Montebello, California and first heard about chiropractic from my 7th grade science teach when I was being medically treated for a heart arrhythmia. I eventually had a surgical procedure done to treat my heart but chiropractic still sparked my interest. In 2003, I graduated from Thurgood Marshall College at the University of California, San Diego with a Bachelor's degree in Animal Physiology/Neuroscience. Since then, I have had the privilege to work in a world renowned dermatology research lab at the VA Medical Center in San Diego but have always kept chiropractic in mind.
During college, I decided to go into the profession after being successfully treated by a chiropractor for tempormandibular joint disorder and earaches. SCUHS seemed to be the perfect choice because of its prestigious reputation and ideal location.
I am actively involved in various student organizations and enjoy discovering new arts and crafts projects during my free time. I love being a student ambassador because I enjoy sharing with prospective students my experiences if it helps their decision making process a little bit easier.

Amy Hernandez - Student
Born and raised in Southern California (Los Angeles County), Amy graduated in 2005 from Biola University, with a B.S. in Biological Sciences and a minor in Biblical Studies.
I first learned of SCU through my Chiropractor- both he and his wife are SCU graduates; then gained additional information through an Admissions Counselor at a Graduate Fair at Biola. I was quite impressed with SCU’s presentation; later attended Campus Preview Day and finally decided on SCU. I decided on SCU because of the instructors, campus, Advantage program, and the National Board passing rate. The fact that SCU would provide me with the tools I would need to be a great doctor sealed the deal for me. I am contemplating specialization in either the Radiology or Sports Medicine program.
I enjoy a variety of activities outside of school - sleep is always a joy, going out with friends, a little football is good for the soul, off-campus activities classmates put together, various club events and all sorts of fun stuff.
I wanted to be a Student Ambassador for SCU to do my part in promoting a good school; to help prospective students make an educated decision about their future, and to be a resource available to them should they decide on SCU.

Melissa G. Allen - Student
A little about me and why I am a student ambassador…
In 1999, I graduated from Saint Paul High School in Whittier, California. While at St. Paul High School, I was a member of the Pep Squad, ran track, played soccer, and was a member of Leadership during my senior year. I obtained my AA degree from Cerritos College then transferred to Cal State University at Fullerton where I ran track competitively. I graduated 2004 majoring in Communications with am emphasis in public relations.
So why am I at SCUHS??? Actually, I grew up with Chiropractic all my life. I wanted to be sure it was the right career for me, so I branched out on my own before making my ultimate decision for graduate school. I will be a fourth generation chiropractor in my family, however, the first female! Upon deciding to attend SCU, I realized that I had a great deal of prerequisite courses to take. What really helped me was having someone to talk to and help me through the process. It was most helpful to meet current students and ask questions. With the knowledge I gained, I would like to return the favor and hopefully help some of the new students.

Ron Dummar - Student
I was born in Glendale, CA, and grew up in the Rocky Mountains of Northern Utah. I lived in Heber Valley until I graduated from Wasatch High School. Two weeks after graduation, I boarded a plane for London, England to serve a two year mission for my church. Following my Mission, I enrolled at Brigham Young University where I majored in Therapeutic Recreation.
After the birth of my first son, my interest in health exploded and I became literally obsessed with finding the best care for my son and family. My wife and I researched endless hours and visited countless professionals throughout all of healthcare, but felt most impressed by the healing approach of Chiropractors and Acupuncturists. Throughout this process I realized that it made me excited to help people get well and stay well.
I am married, have two children and am dual-enrolled. Anything is possible, right?! I intend to graduate from SCU, open a multidisciplinary clinic when the time is right, and spend lots of time with my family. I love to play soccer, and have recently been developing a pretty good game of ping pong. Hope to see you at SCU!
