CSIH Mission

The mission of the College of Science and Integrative Health is to provide excellence in academics and clinical studies with an emphasis on evidence based practices, scientific reasoning and information literacy in order to prepare our students to become competent and successful integrative healthcare professionals.


Program Offerings


Department of Basic Sciences

The Department of Basic Sciences is one of the academic departments at the Southern University of Health Sciences. Its main function is to implement the Basic Sciences component of the chiropractic and Acupuncture academic program. This academic program is a Competency-based, Problem-centered approach to the education of our Chiropractic and Acupuncture students. The Department of Basic Sciences is guided by a Strategic Plan of the University that is consistently being revised to reflect the changing needs of its students, faculty and staff. The Strategic Plan was initially created to ensure the University and its Colleges would adhere to specific requirements coinciding with the various accreditation agency recommendations and mandates.

Department Mission and Vision

As part of the Southern California University of Health Sciences, the mission of the Department of Basic Sciences is to provide an excellent education program that is integrated with clinical sciences to prepare our graduates to become the most competent doctors of chiropractic and Acupuncture practitioners.

The department aims to provide the best curriculum for teaching the students, and establish a faculty body that is excellent in teaching and scholarly works.

Department Goals

  • Educate and train Chiropractic, Acupuncture and Physician Assistant students to be knowledgeable in basic sciences as a foundation for clinical learning.
  • Develop the skills of self-directed learning of Chiropractic, Acupuncture and Physician Assistant students as a means of life-long professional development of Doctors of Chiropractic, Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Physician Assistants.
  • Conduct and support research in areas relevant to chiropractic education and practice.
  • Provide service to University constituents including academic programs, students, faculty, staff, administration and alumni.
  • Provide service to health professional associations as well as to the community

Office of Academic Integrity

The academic community, like all communities, functions best when all its members treat one another with honesty, fairness, respect, and trust. Southern California University of Health Sciences expects high standards of scholarship and integrity from all members of its community. This is consistent with the University’s Guiding Principle of Integrity: “We value treating each other with respect, dignity and integrity and being truthful, fair and accountable at all times.” Therefore, to accomplish its Mission of producing competent, caring, and successful integrative healthcare practitioners, the University promotes the assumption of personal responsibility and integrity at all times. All Academic Integrity initiatives will be overseen by the College of Science and Integrative Health.

The University prohibits all forms of academic dishonesty. The University views all forms of academic dishonesty as fundamentally incompatible with its own character as well as a violation of the public’s trust in the healthcare practitioners they expect our students to become. Academic dishonesty includes but is not limited to, lying, cheating or plagiarism, embezzling, defrauding or using false pretenses to procure property or services; knowingly purchasing or possessing stolen or embezzled property, money or services; forgery, alteration, or misuse of any SCUHS instrument of identification, document, or record; furnishing false information to any SCUHS official; sabotage or destruction of assessment materials or processes; undermining the integrity of assessments; taking screenshots or pictures of online assessments or use of any unapproved electronic devices.


Department of Associated Clinical Sciences

The Department of Associated Clinical Sciences (ACS) consists of the pre-clinical courses instructed to students in the Doctor of Chiropractic degree program, Los Angeles College of Chiropractic. Courses located in ACS include the Diagnostic Imaging division (X-Ray Physics and Protection, Diagnostic Imaging and Basic Anatomy, Radiographic Interpretation I and II, and Radiographic Positioning), Orthopedics/Neurological Assessment (CONA I and II, Clinical Neurology), Physiotherapy, Clinical Psychology, and Special Populations (Pediatrics, Geriatrics, Obstetrics/Gynecology). Additionally, ACS included a post-graduate residency in Diagnostic Imaging, where successful candidates would be eligible for the Diplomate in American Chiropractic Board of Radiology.


Department of Interprofessional Clinical Science

One of the Department of Interprofessional Clinical Science’s goals is to implement classroom knowledge into a practical, working model for collaborative healthcare benefits for patients. Our movement towards increasing the science, best practices, and the substantive research into coursework makes for a strong foundation. Students take prided in owning responsibilities for their educational experience, as guided by well trained and skilled interprofessional faculty. Evidence-based research is a driving force in encouraging and cultivating a patient-centered approach to healthcare in a multi-disciple environment. Emphasis is placed on health promotion, disease prevention, communication, research literacy, assessment, diagnosis, and of course inter-professional collaboration.
