As a leader in the education of chiropractic and acupuncture/oriental medicine, Southern California University of Health Sciences, with its Los Angeles College of Chiropractic (founded 1911) and College of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine (founded 2000), is where you need to be in order to secure your degree and turn your passion into a fulfilling career.
We train our students, chiropractic and acupuncture/oriental medicine alike, from the very first day, to receive their patients as primary care providers - working in conjunction with other health care professionals to offer integrated services to keep individuals active and enjoying a healthy lifestyle.
Our curriculum, the renowned ADVANTAGE Program, offers hands-on experience in the first trimester, enhanced throughout the educational process with instruction and training that has been recognized around the world as innovative and exciting. For example, the Standardized Patient Program places students in a variety of one-on-one interactions with "faux" patients to perfect both interpersonal and practice/care skills before they become practitioners serving real patients with real problems.
Our educational philosophy is based on our mission - to educate and train students to confidently assume the role of the first contact, primary care provider. This is accomplished through a scientific, evidence-based process that focuses on three standards for health care training. At SCU, we believe in a competency-based, problem-oriented and patient-centered curriculum. We've decreased the number of classroom lecture hours and increased small group sessions, with an emphasis on labs, discussions, tutorials and computer exercises.
