As President, I have the privilege of serving the university and leading the academic mission of one of the richest learning environments of alternative and integrative healthcare on any campus in the nation. It is a responsibility that I accept with great pride and humility.
I am proud to say that SCU offers outstanding graduate education in the healing arts through the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic, College of Eastern Medicine, and the College of Science and Integrative Health. The academic programs are backed by excellent and dedicated faculty, an outstanding learning resource network, and a strong academic support system. In addition to the doctor of chiropractic and master’s of acupuncture and oriental medicine, and first professional doctorate in acupuncture and oriental medicine, our postgraduate residency programs in chiropractic sports medicine and diagnostic imaging are second to none.
Since 1911, we have been dedicated to the highest levels of patient care and have gained a reputation for excellence in science-based education. We provide students with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to meet the many challenges of the changing healthcare environment. John Scaringe was appointed President for the Southern California University of Health Sciences on May 8, 2010 after serving as the University’s Interim President since August 2009. Prior to his presidency, Dr. Scaringe served as Vice President for Academic Affairs and Chief Academic Officer for approximately three years. He began his career at SCU’s Los Angeles College of Chiropractic (LACC) as faculty in 1991. Dr. Scaringe served as Chair of the Chiropractic Procedures Department and the Department of Diagnosis for LACC before directing the University Health Center in Whittier, the largest outpatient care facility at SCU. In 2001, he became Dean of Clinical Education and Chief of Staff and in 2005 was named Dean of the Los Angeles College of Chiropractic.
Dr. Scaringe is a published author and has served as the Associate Editor for the Journal of Sports Chiropractic and Rehabilitation and on the editorial advisory board of Manual Therapy. He is a frequent lecturer on sports medicine and manual therapy related topics and has cared for elite amateur and professional athletes worldwide. In addition to private practice and over 20 years of teaching experience, Dr. Scaringe currently serves on the Council on Chiropractic Education.
Scaringe holds a Doctor of Chiropractic degree from New York Chiropractic College, a Master’s of Science in Kinesiology from California State University, Fullerton, and an Ed.D. in Educational Leadership from California State University, Long Beach. He is also a Diplomate and past president of the American Chiropractic Board of Sports Physicians.
He is married to Christine and they have two daughters, Danielle and Gabriella.

Dr. John Scaringe was inaugurated as the 14th President of the Southern California University of Health Sciences on October 2, 2010. and with him the hope of ushering in the era of stability and visionary leadership. This was a pivotal period in the history of SCU as we celebrate the past 100 years we look forward to lay the foundation for the next 100 years.
The University is both excited and honored to have a President that is both visionary and strategic. What makes our 14th President, Dr. John Scaringe, unique is his experience and background as an educator, clinician, health center director and senior administrative leader here at SCU. His intimate knowledge and numerous responsibilities assure us that he will navigate the surest course.
The Inauguration Ceremony and Reception were held at the Turnip Rose in Costa Mesa, CA. Dr. John Scaringe delivered his Inaugural Address and was invested as President after receiving greetings from representatives of the students, faculty, staff, alumni and Board of Regents. Following the investiture ceremony, the many guests and dignitaries attended the Inaugural Reception.
The President’s Circle at SCU plays a critical role in the advancement of the Southern California University of Health Sciences. Members of the Presidents’s Circle are individuals committed to academic excellence, the enhancement and development of new programs at the University and the promotion of integrative healthcare.
The President’s Circle shall function as a discretionary fund for the President to fulfill the vision and mission of the University as opportunities arise. All donations to the President’s Circle shall be placed in a restricted fund for the discretionary use of the SCU President.
Membership in the President’s Circle begins with a minimum donation of $1,000 annually to this specific program. All members of the President’s Circle will receive updates on activities of the University, be invited to all SCU events, and will receive recognition in the SCU Alumni Report and other campus publications as appropriate.
